AMPLIFY ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS
We are thrilled at how the launch of the AMPLIFY program is going in 6th-8th grade English/Language Arts! As we promised when we asked the community to support our schools in the 2020 referendum, a key commitment (in addition to MAJOR capital projects) was to provide our students and teachers with updated, best practice resources for learning. AMPLIFY is that for our 6th-8th graders! For more information on the program, please check out this letter from the E/LA teachers! They are doing SENSATIONAL work!!!

FOX'S CLOSET
The Fox's Closet at Stanton is currently collecting gently used, clean middle school-appropriate clothing that will be available for Stanton students to browse through and take home with them. There is a donation box in the hallway near the office. We are accepting jackets, scarves, hats, mittens, jeans, shirts, sweaters, leggings, pants, shorts, skirts, and dresses. Please support our students by donating clothing that you no longer need to our Fox's Closet.

BAND IS BACK!

The band is back! I want to make sure that you choose music to be a part of your child’s life! As parents, you make decisions each day about what is best for your child, often with little or no concrete information or certain outcomes. With music, you can be sure that you are making the right decision for not just next year, but for the rest of their lives. Study after study has shown that learning to play an instrument has tremendous benefits on our young people’s minds.

This week, your child will hear a demonstration concert of instruments and receive a flyer of how to join.

To register your child, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Have your child visit our website: http://www.MusicArtsBand.com/29136

2. Have them watch the instrument demonstration videos.

3. Choose their instrument and register for band.

I know you have questions about where to get an instrument or what supplies your child will need. All of that can be found on the website. There will also be a virtual Q and A meeting on 9/13 at 7:00pm if you have further questions.

Password: 936381

Now it’s my turn to help you by helping your child. Sign them up for music, and I will help bring out a part of them you might not even know is there.

Please feel free to contact me at brad.cardella@musicarts.com if you have questions or would like to discuss this further.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Brad Cardella

Upcoming Board of Education Vacancy
I'm sad to let you know that the amazing Nannette Kiesgen has decided to step down from the Board of Education. Nannette gave so much time and energy to D114 in many roles but especially as a Board member. We'll formally accept her resignation at the September meeting, and then we will move forward with seeking a candidate. If you know of a D114 resident who may be a good candidate or if you might be interested in being considered for the Board of Education, please let me know. Candidates must, on the date of their appointment, be citizens of the United States of America, 18 years of age or over, residents of the State of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding their appointment, and registered voters.

I'm THRILLED to let you know that, since we have a full fleet of amazing bus drivers, we have brought back the Stanton Activity Routes. 🎉 On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, we'll have busses running to bring kids home from activities and practices. To see the bus routes, please click here and find the routes listed under the Parent links:

D114 Weekly Family Updates 9/12/22

Dear Families,

I hope you were able to stay dry this weekend!!!! We had soccer and football and definitely got soaked!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the entire staff at Lotus! We are proud to announce that Lotus was recently RECOGNIZED AS A MODEL PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY AT WORK for its sustained success in raising student achievement.

Lotus now joins one of only about 200 schools and districts in the US and Canada to receive this honor.

As always, we will continue to thrive for excellence among our staff and students.

KIDS AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Please remember to monitor what your kids are doing with social media/technology. There are so many ways kids can land in places and spaces they shouldn't, and they can be tempted to send messages with content that they would never say to someone in person. As a mom with kids with phones, too, I know how hard all this can be... and I do my best to stay on top of it all.

If you need any help or guidance with this, please reach out to any of us in D114! We're truly all in this together!
