UPDATES ON REOPENING PLANS

We are busy planning for Summer School (July 13-August 7), and we will be offering in-person and remote learning with health precautions in place per ISBE guidelines. All families of students invited to attend Summer School will receive details later this week with the final plans.

In planning for Fall 2020, we continue to work to explore options for plans in the three strands below:

As I shared with you in a separate email last week, we have entered Phase 4, and the guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, our governing body, mandates that we implement the following:

The minimum public health requirements that all public and nonpublic schools must meet as they create local reopening plans in Phase 4 are to:

  • Require use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including face coverings;
  • Prohibit more than 50 individuals from gathering in one space;
  • Require social distancing be observed as much as possible;
  • Require that schools conduct symptom screenings and temperature checks or require that individuals self-certify that they are free of symptoms before entering school buildings; and
  • Require an increase in schoolwide cleaning and disinfection.

Our core planning team begins meeting this week to answer questions and create our proposed plan for the Fall. The goal at this point is to share these plans at the July 14, 2020 Board of Education meeting and then communicate out to families. You can trust that we will develop both in-person and remote options, as I know families' perspectives and needs vary greatly. In fact, here are a few data points from the Family Return to School survey that will continue to inform our decision-making:

Again, more to come as soon as I have facts to share. As a parent of school-aged kids myself, I totally understand how stressful this is and how not having a plan makes it worse. We will communicate as soon as we can---I promise!

UPDATES ON GRAB AND GO
Starting this Thursday, July 1, Grab and Go will shift to LOTUS each Monday and Thursday from 7:30-10:00AM. The roof work at Stanton is pretty messy and, since we will be offering meals as part of Summer School at Lotus, it makes sense to relocate all food service to Lotus for the rest of the summer.

Local Resources for YOU!

Fox Lake Library
This year we had to shift gears for our Summer Reading program this year with our library needing to be closed and we created a really neat online Summer Reading program for our patrons! The program is FREE and for children, teens, and adults! It allows them to keep track of their reading which earns them raffle tickets towards the Grand Prizes and other smaller prizes along the way.

Here is  a how-to sign up video on our website: http://www2.youseemore.com/foxlake/contentpages.asp?loc=101.

Here are the Grand Prizes we will raffle off August 16th:
Children's:
Pre-K - 2nd Grade Prize Bundle: Family of 4 Pass to the Kohl Children's Museum, 1 free pizza coupon from Antioch Pizza (Fox Lake, IL), & Curious George: Sticker and Coloring Book
3rd- 6th Grade Prize Bundle: Family of 4 Pass to the Field Museum, 1 free pizza coupon from Antioch Pizza (Fox Lake, IL), & National Geographic Kids: Dinos Sticker Book
Teen's:

Our goal is to keep children reading during the Summer so that they go back to start the school year with strong literacy skills!
