Reopening Updates

Some key points:
*We are planning for a full reopening with our typical master schedules and the goal of everything as close to "back to normal" as is possible, albeit with masks and social distancing.

*Consistent with local, state, and federal guidance, students who are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 or who live with a family member at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19, may qualify for remote learning. If this applies to you/your family, please contact Heather Friziellie, Superintendent, ASAP at heather.friziellie@foxlake114.org.

To hear about our plans for reopening:
*Please join the August 10 Board of Education Meeting at 7:00 PM at Lotus or using Google Meet (click for link).
*Watch your email--I'll send out the plans on Wednesday morning.

Vaccination Updates
*We continue to strongly encourage all vaccine-eligible children and adults to be vaccinated.

*If your child has been vaccinated and you are willing to provide us with a copy of his/her vaccination record, it would be greatly appreciated. This will help us more efficiently make decisions about quarantine situations--remember, any vaccinated student will NOT have to quarantine even if they are a close contact as long as they have no symptoms!

Free Meals
We will continue to provide "5 for Me" meal pick up at Lotus weekly on Tuesdays
through THIS TUESDAY August 10. On August 16, 17, and 18, meals will be available daily for pick up at
Lotus. Once school starts on August 19, our free meals will stop as all kids will get free
breakfast and lunch at school.

Spirit Wear
The D114 spirit wear store is OPEN!!! Check out the flyer attached to this week's Monday Memo, or visit the store using this link. Please note that any logo can be put on any item.

Weekly Family Update August 2, 2021

Hi, D114 families! I hope you enjoyed this gorgeous weekend! As we turn the calendar page to August, we are all SO excited to think about having everyone back for what we know will be an AMAZING 2021-22 school year!!!

If this applies to you/your family, please contact Heather Friziellie, Superintendent, ASAP at heather.friziellie@foxlake114.org.

As of 8/2/21:

As you are all aware, the current recommendation from CDC, IDPH and LCHD is masking indoors for all individuals in K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.  Additionally, our legal counsel and insurance provider have stated that our best way to protect ourselves is to immediately follow the masking recommendations. That, combined with the fact that we have moved into substantial transmission in both Lake County and our local community, necessitates a masking change.

Beginning first thing Monday morning, masks will be expected at all times for staff, students, parents and visitors while on the bus and in the school building, regardless of vaccination status. The only exception is when eating/drinking. Masks are not required outside.  Masks will continue to be available onsite should anyone forget to bring one.

This masking change is being made to support our goal to be together for in-person learning for the start of school and minimize any chance of required isolating or quarantining as a result of activities taking place before school begins. I also feel it is important for you to know now that our local health department will enforce a 14-day quarantine for close contacts in districts not masking.  Shortened quarantine options and a new test-to-stay option are only available if students and staff are masked.  While fully vaccinated individuals are exempt from quarantining at this time, we are highly recommending that everyone maintain at least 3’ of social distance as much as is possible from others in order to avoid inadvertent close contact.

These are our masking plans up to the start of the school year. The Board of Education, administration, and I are evaluating the guidance and continuing to monitor local health metrics before a final determination is made about masking and the start to the school year.  The recommendation for this will be shared in full detail at the 8/10/21 Board of Education meeting. Whatever that decision is, we will formally evaluate all data available, minimally every two weeks, to determine if our mitigation measures remain appropriate.  The hope is certainly that we can peel one mitigation layer back at a time. There will be more information coming soon.

While I know resuming mask wearing is not what we'd want, it is imperative the District remains responsive to the continually evolving guidance and health metrics, with the goal for all teaching and learning to remain in-person.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. As always, please reach out with any questions, and know that I'm open to your feedback.

Weekly Family Update--Kicking Off 2021-22!

Hello, D114 Families! I'm starting the Weekly Family Update now to make sure we are in communication as we get ready for fall!

21-22 Registration and Fees--PLEASE REGISTER ASAP!
If you haven't already registered for school, please do by clicking this link to get to Skyward. If you need any help, please call Lotus (847-973-4100) or Stanton (847-973-4200).

If you are unable to pay fees, please complete this Fee Waiver Form and follow the directions as indicated.

Reopening Updates
Please click here to view our updated reopening plans based on the current information and guidance we have received.

Some key points:
*We are planning for a full reopening with our typical master schedules.

To start the year...
*We will keep many of our mitigation strategies in place, will discontinue some, and will put some new ones in place. As our local COVID data changes, we will pivot as needed to adjust.
*Because we will have all students back onsite, we will not be able to maintain 3' social distancing at all times.

*Since we cannot consistently maintain social distancing and in alignment with current guidance from the CDC, IDPH, ISBE, our legal counsel, and our insurance provider, masks will be worn by:
-All Lotus students.
-Stanton 5th graders.
-Stanton unvaccinated 6th-8th graders.
-Unvaccinated staff.
-Wearing of masks will be monitored using the honor system for Stanton 6th-8th grade students and all staff.
-Masks required for anyone on a bus.
-We are counting on families to support and communicate this to children.
-Schools will partner with families, as always, on family decisions.

*Starting in the fall, temperature checks will not be done onsite and self-certification will not be necessary. Anyone coming on site is expected to be symptom-free, not an active COVID case, and not a close contact to COVID.

There will be lots more to come as we get closer to launch!

Vaccination Updates
*We strongly encourage all vaccine-eligible children and adults to be vaccinated.

*In partnership with Passport Health, Grant Community High School District 124, Gavin School District 37, Big Hollow School District 38, Lake Villa Community Consolidated School District 41 and Fox Lake Grade School District 114 will be offering a second vaccination opportunity for students ages 12 and older.  The vaccinations will take place at Grant Community High School District 124 in the Commons (enter at door #1).  Vaccination dates are as follows:

Dose 1: Wednesday, July 28 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Dose 2: Wednesday, August 18 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Parents must accompany students aged 12-17 to the event.  Students 18 or older do not need to have a parent present.  Click here to register for the vaccine.

The vaccine is free to all students and there is no cost to the districts to provide this service.  Parents will be asked to complete in advance a questionnaire, consent form and provide health insurance information, if applicable.  School districts are not requiring vaccination, however; students that are fully vaccinated will not need to quarantine when in close contact with a positive or presumed positive case of COVID-19.

Free Meals
We will continue to provide "5 for Me" meal pick up at Lotus weekly on Tuesdays
through August 10. On August 16, 17, and 18, meals will be available daily for pick up at
Lotus. Once school starts on August 19, our free meals will stop as all kids will get free
breakfast and lunch at school.
