Today's Updates

8th Grade Class T-Shirts

Because they cannot contribute to the dance this year, the PTA will be purchasing a t-shirt for each 8th grade student at Stanton! Therefore, you DO NOT need to use the link to purchase one for your child.
If you'd like to order an additional 8th grade class t-shirt, please use this link. Thanks to the PTA for setting this up! Order deadline is May 27 at 11:59PM.

The t-shirts were designed by Stanton's very own 8th grade student, Allie Babcock!

Lotus Friday Fun!
As you know, Friday is a FUN end of year celebration for Lotus students! In addition to it being virtual field day, we also have something super fun planned...

Thanks to our general PTA, we are offering a  VIRTUAL family program coming to our school on Friday, May 22, 2020 at11:00am.

Tim Hannig’s PRO-KIDS SHOW is an exciting presentation filled with music, magic, fun and involvement for theentire family – children and their parents.
We had a great time with Tim's shows in February, and he has re-imagined his style of entertainment to make it full of interactive live online fun for all ages.

This special PRO-KIDS SHOW Family Show will be presented on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 11:00am at no charge to our families (Thank you, PTA!).  You won’t want to miss it!
Get all of the details by clicking here. There's also a letter attached to today's email with this information and more!

All I have to say is WOW, WOW, WOW! I am so impressed with your work ethic and perseverance!  I can't wait to try another set of mysteries with you this week.

Mystery Level 1 is all about Honey Bees! Learn about their life cycle, adaptations, the conservation of bees, and rolls of different types of bees.  This Escape Room is ready to go in the D114 Detectives Level 1 Google Classroom (see code below).

Mystery Level 2 will take you on a mission through two 360-degree rooms!  We will decode inspirational quotes and facts from famous figures about growth mindset. Students will learn about Frida Kahlo, Taylor Swift, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Mahatma Gandhi. This Escape Room will NOT be shared until we meet on Thursday afternoon at 2:10. We will complete this Escape Room in small teams on Google Hangout.

R was for REFLECTION

A Poem 💗
What started out
As my child’s 1st grade year
Has turned into
Nothing but a dreadful fear

He misses his school
His teachers and friends
Not a day goes by
That he hasn’t asked “when will this end?”

Children need routine
That includes structure and fun
This is something they’ve haven’t had
Since the pandemic begun

Hopefully soon
All of this will end
And the children and teachers
Could go back to school again

S is for SUPERHERO! I can't even WAIT to see the kids' sweet faces dressed up as superheroes!!!!

Ongoing Updates
GRAB AND GO
We are now doing Grab and Go on Monday and Thursday mornings ONLY from 7:30-10:00 at Stanton. You can grab "3 for Me" and everything else you need but we also limit how many staff members need to come in and how often we are asking families to come to school. You can still get Chromebooks, school supplies, books, and more. Social distancing is KEY to us getting back to normal! We will be running Grab and Go through the summer to help support our families during this difficult time.

It is our goal that EVERY student have access to a device and the Internet so they can engage in learning. We know it's hard if there's only one device in your home, so if you need to borrow so everyone can work, please come by Grab and Go on Mondays or Thursdays--we'll have Chromebooks to loan!

If You Are Struggling...
Illinois Department of Human Services’ Mental Health Division has launched a free-of-charge emotional support text line, Call4Calm, for Illinois residents experiencing stress and mental health issues related to COVID-19. Individuals who would like to speak with a mental health professional can text “TALK” to 5-5-2-0-2-0, or for Spanish, “HABLAR” to the same number: 5-5-2-0-2-0.
Call4Calm is free to use, and individuals will remain anonymous. Once a resident sends a text to the hotline, within 24 hours they will receive a call from a counselor employed by a local community mental health center to provide support.
Individuals can also text 5-5-2-0-2-0, with keywords such as “unemployment” or “food” or “shelter” and will receive information on how to navigate and access supports and services.
