Today's Updates

Remote Learning
Thank you for all you are doing! As a parent myself, some days are truly better than others in the whole world of eLearning, so remember that the goal ISN'T perfection--it's doing the best you can. For example, yesterday we chose to ONLY do the reading tasks assigned to my 3rd grader. She was burned out...and so was I as a parent. Today is a new day, and we'll start again. :)

Hanging Out in Hangouts/Meet
We've learned quickly that the kids are VERY excited to see each in class meetings/live lessons on Google Hangout/Meet. ONE FAVOR--if you could please review Hangout etiquette with your kids, especially related to working in large groups and using the Chat Box, we'd sure appreciate it. Key points are:

*Using mute and the hand raise feature help everyone feel successful.

*We also need everyone to keep all questions and comments on topic.

*We'd also ask for no personal conversations during class.
THANK YOU!

Lotus K-2 Specials Update
To help students focus on literacy and math, we are NOT adding any more activities on our own SeeSaw.  We want to keep things simple so you become comfortable with accessing the eLearning provided by classroom teachers first. So:

*We will keep Specials classrooms open so you can continue to use the tools and activities that are currently here, but at this time we will NO LONGER  be adding additional activities.
*You will be able to access the Specials weekly menu in your homeroom teacher's SeeSaw classroom.  This will make everything accessible in ONE place so that you don't have to log in and out of different classrooms.

*All Specials activities are CAN DO options and students will NOT be penalized for not completing Specials tasks.

We will continue to monitor how things are going and will let you know of any other changes. Thank you for your patience and flexibility! As always, your feedback is appreciated. Thank you for all you are doing!

Thanks to the Specials team for your flexibility, problem solving, and commitment to the eLearning process!

Remote Learning Options
New choice menus will be mailed out today.

We'll continue to offer both choice menus and eLearning.

If that is too much for your family, then focus on the eLearning tasks from your teacher(s). They are planning specifically for their classes, and we don't want kids to miss out on their fabulous work. Students will NOT be penalized for making this choice, and the work will still be scored as "complete" or "incomplete".

If eLearning is too much for your family or you choose to NOT participate in virtual platforms, then please focus on the choice menus. Students will NOT be penalized for making this choice, and the work will still be scored as "complete" or "incomplete".

What ISN'T OK is for kids to do nothing, and we are here to help families through making this all work. WE GOT THIS! We will help you find the balance if you're struggling---please just reach out!

And we won't stop reaching out to you to make sure we connect with each and every student! They are too important to us!!!!

If you need help, reach out to your teacher(s), principals, me, or any D114 staff member. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

Please know that we will have eLearning ready to do for April 10, which is officially a District holiday for Good Friday. These are optional, but we wanted to make sure to launch the full first week schedule, so we sure hope our students will join us for the Friday tasks if at all possible.

We are here to help...and please DO NOT put too much pressure on yourself or your children. This is new for all of us, and we are SO GRATEFUL to our families 💓

This Week's Spirit Week
Here are some pictures from Walking Wednesday...

I'm looking forward to the questions for Trivia Thursday!!!! I'm guessing some of our students will stump me for SURE! Hey, Siri... 😃

Here's this week's Spirit Week plan:

Please share pictures with your child's teacher(s) and me!
Thanks to Mrs. Lorenz at Lotus for putting this together. We'll be doing Spirit Weeks every week until we are all back together!!!!

Ongoing Updates
GRAB AND GO
We are now doing Grab and Go on Monday and Thursday mornings ONLY from 7:30-10:00 at Stanton. You can grab "3 for Me" and everything else you need but we also limit how many staff members need to come in and how often we are asking families to come to school. You can still get Chromebooks, school supplies, books, and more. Social distancing is KEY to us getting back to normal!

It is our goal that EVERY student have access to a device and the Internet so they can engage in learning. We know it's hard if there's only one device in your home, so if you need to borrow so everyone can work, please come by Grab and Go on Mondays or Thursdays--we'll have Chromebooks to loan!

CYBER READ ALOUD WITH A NEW READER EACH DAY!
