Weekly Family Update 9/20/21

I hope this week's update finds you after an amazing weekend! I got to watch my daughter Taylor (10) play amazing soccer--she's a goalie. Then, on Sunday, my son Braden (12) played his best football game EVER with some massive tackles and TD off a long pass--he plays tight end and middle linebacker.

I do have a couple key notes for our families to launch this week's update:

*THANK YOU for your continued flexibility with bus times. We are still short one driver this week, so we continue to adjust times. If you are able to drive your child(ren) to school, we sure appreciate it. We are very lucky to have our amazing team of bus and van drivers and aides. We are still also looking for more drivers and are committed to having our bus routes NOT impact student on time arrival as much as we possibly can.

*Surveillance testing starts THIS WEEK. If you opted in, please see below for details and be ready for reminders from us to make it all a smooth process for everyone.

MAP and iReady Assessments
Students in grades 1-8 will be taking the MAP Growth test to measure growth in reading and students in grades K-8 will be taking the iReady Diagnostic to measure growth in math. These benchmarking assessments are given at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. Information will be shared with families and reviewed at the October 12 Board of Education meeting.

Daily COVID Data
I've had quite a few families request that we post our daily COVID data, so it's now on the website and will be updated daily. I'll also continue to post  and share the county/zip code data weekly.

Surveillance Testing--UPDATES!!!
We will be partnering with O'Hare Labs for our weekly surveillance testing to launch THIS WEEK! Here are a few key points:

UPDATE: If you are opting in for testing but have tested COVID+ in the last 90 days, you may want to consider NOT testing at this time, as results may still indicate the presence of COVID-19. Please contact Heather Friziellie at heather.friziellie@foxlake114.org if you want to change your child's status.

Students

Students are given their pre-labeled kit each Tuesday.
Students return the samples on Wednesday upon arrival.
Samples that are not returned by 9AM Wednesday can not be included in the shipment to the lab for review.

If you have opted your child in for testing, PLEASE tell them so that they are not surprised when we hand them a test (Lotus) or do an announcement for all those picking up kits to come to the office (Stanton).

*We will be testing once each week rather than twice due to kit shortages and pick up timelines.
*This is free PCR testing using nasal/mouth swabs and is OPT IN for students.
*Kits provide at home testing. We'll send the kits home on Tuesdays, and they are returned on Wednesdays. Directions for testing are included.
*Samples are taken by FedEx to lab and you get the results in 24-48 hours.
*This will cause MUCH less disruption to the school day and keep kids and staff from being to test in front of others.

Grant Vaccination Pod

In partnership with Passport Health, Grant Community High School District 124, Gavin School District 37, Big Hollow School District 38, Lake Villa Community Consolidated School District 41 and Fox Lake Grade School District 114 will be offering a vaccination opportunity for those aged 12 and older.  The vaccinations will take place at Grant Community High School District 124 in the Commons (enter at door #1). Vaccination dates are as follows:

Dose 1

Wednesday, September 22     4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Dose 2

Wednesday, October 13          4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Parents must accompany students aged 12-17 to the event.  Students 18 or older do not need to have a parent present.

The vaccine is free to all students and there is no cost to the districts to provide this service.  You can register and find all the necessary paperwork, including an electronic consent form, by clicking here.  Parents are asked to bring health insurance information, if applicable.  School districts are not requiring vaccination, however; students who are fully vaccinated will not need to quarantine when in close contact at school with a positive or presumed positive case of COVID-19.

Participants will receive the Pfizer vaccine.  Any questions should be directed to Heather Friziellie
