Welcome to a new week! I hope that everyone is settling into the school year routines!
I do have a couple key notes for our families to launch this week's update:
*THANK YOU for your flexibility with bus times. As you probably know, there is a major shortage of bus drivers, and we are very lucky to have our amazing team of bus and van drivers and aides. When we have absences of drivers, we will adjust schedules and double back on routes to make sure everyone gets to and from school as close to on time as possible. We will ALWAYS call to let you know when there's a change or delay.
*While we are so happy to have school feeling more and more back to normal, we are still in a pandemic and COVID data (see below) continues to rise. It's SO important that everyone does our best to keep kids safe. This means NOT having big groups of kids together, especially inside. One event can impact HUGE numbers of kids and families when one child ends up being COVID+.
MAP and iReady Assessments
Students in grades 1-8 will be taking the MAP Growth test to measure growth in reading and students in grades K-8 will be taking the iReady Diagnostic to measure growth in math. These benchmarking assessments are given at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
Daily COVID Data
I've had quite a few families request that we post our daily COVID data, so it's now on the website and will be updated daily. I'll also continue to post and share the county/zip code data weekly.
Sending Students to School
Although you are no longer required to self-certify your student each day before school it is still required that you keep your child home from school if they have any one COVID symptom and have them tested for COVID before returning to school. A test result from a testing agency or care provider is required (HOME TESTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED). STUDENTS PRESENTING AT SCHOOL WITH ANY SYMPTOMS WILL BE SENT HOME UNTIL A COVID TEST RESULT IS PROVIDED. Please note that tests are FREE at clinics, pharmacies and healthcare facilities.
Surveillance Testing
We will be partnering with O'Hare Labs for our weekly surveillance testing to launch the week of 9/20/21. I'm sorry for the delay on this, but it's been a lot more complicated that originally thought. I'll send a separate email with details on this later this week, but here are a few updates/key points:
*We will be testing once each week rather than twice due to kit shortages and pick up timelines.
*This is free PCR testing using nasal/mouth swabs and is OPT IN for students.
*Kits provide at home testing. We'll send the kits home on Tuesdays, and they are returned on Wednesdays.
*Samples are taken by FedEx to lab and you get the results in 24-48 hours.
*This will cause MUCH less disruption to the school day and keep kids and staff from being to test in front of others.
