Weekly Family Update 9/7/21

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day weekend! I'm sending this on Tuesday since we all deserved the Monday off!
MAP and iReady Assessments
Students in grades 1-8 will be taking the MAP Growth test to measure growth in reading and students in grades K-8 will be taking the iReady Diagnostic to measure growth in math. These benchmarking assessments are given at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.

Daily COVID Data
I've had quite a few families request that we post our daily COVID data, so it's now on the website and will be updated daily. I'll also continue to post  and share the county/zip code data weekly.

Sending Students to School
Although you are no longer required to self-certify your student each day before school it is still required that you keep your child home from school if they have any one COVID symptom and have them tested for COVID before returning to school.  A test result from a testing agency or care provider is required (HOME TESTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED).  STUDENTS PRESENTING AT SCHOOL WITH ANY SYMPTOMS WILL BE SENT HOME UNTIL A COVID TEST RESULT IS PROVIDED. Please note that tests are FREE at clinics, pharmacies and healthcare facilities.

Surveillance Testing
We are still working to launch surveillance testing for students who have opted in. Since the vendor we have been working with is not meeting its implementation targets, we are now working with another vendor who will offer:
-Free onsite PCR testing using nasal/mouth swabs.
*Take home kit testing. We'd send the kits home on Monday and Thursday, and they are returned on Tuesday and Friday.  Samples are taken by FedEx to lab and you get the results in 24-48 hours.
*This will cause MUCH less disruption to the school day and keep kids and staff from being to test in front of others.
As always, I will continue to keep you informed and will have more updates on the formal launch plan later this week.

Remote Learning Access
To access short term remote learning, students must:
1. Have positive COVID diagnosis, or
2. Be identified as close contact by D114

Situations that do not qualify for remote access:

1. Symptoms in the absence of a COVID diagnosis.
*Students should stay home until symptoms resolve.
*Student will be encouraged to take a COVID test and share results
*COVID testing can be done onsite using SHIELD PCR (once program launches) or Binex Now Rapid with parent/guardian permission.

2. Student identified as close contact with a family member
*Student should stay home and monitor symptoms
*Student will be encouraged to take a COVID test and share results
*COVID testing can be done onsite using SHIELD PCR (once program launches) or Binex Now Rapid with parent/guardian permission.

3. Family vacations.

4. General illnesses.

5. Any other non-COVID related reasons.

Remote Learning Parameters:
Student get “eyes and ears” into the classroom using Google Classroom and Google Meet.
Student is provided at least 5 hours of instruction, of which 2.5 must be synchronous.
Remote access is given 24 hours after notification that a student qualifies.
