UPDATES ON REOPENING PLANS
Thank you to the 314 families who responded to the family survey! Here is a quick glance at the data:

Based on this data, here are our next steps:
Based on this data, here are our next steps:
*At the 7/14/20 Board of Education meeting, I will present a fall opening plan that is designed to offer families two options: Full Remote Learning OR Blended Learning. Pending Board approval, both options will be offered to families so you have choice for the Fall.
*On Wednesday, 7/15, I will send out a communication asking you to commit to your choice for the Fall. This means you will make a decision for the first trimester (August-November) at Lotus and the first quarter (August-October) at Stanton. Due to the complexities of planning, families will have to make a choice for the first chunk of time in the year. I will also share some details about each model to help you make an informed choice. Please note that both options will have a 5 clock hour requirement, will encompass ALL content areas, and will require both daily documented attendance and will issue grades.
*Only families who are REGISTERED for the 2020-21 school year will be able to log their choice. Knowing that we will limit the number of in-person slots to make sure we can meet safety guidelines, it will be VERY IMPORTANT that you log your choice...and therefore you MUST be registered. If you are not registered, we will not be able to document your choice. See below for registration information.
As you know, all our plans are contingent upon us being able to safely open schools and meet the guidelines established by the CDC and ISBE. All this--at any moment--can change, so your flexibility, partnership, and collaboration are appreciated more than you know.
Summer School opens today with 60 students joining us for in-person learning and 20 joining via remote learning. We can't wait to have kids and staff back on site and look forward to trialing all our safety protocols to make sure we are creating a balance of safety and learning for ALL. We are so excited to have kids BACK IN SCHOOL!!!!

A few parents have emailed to ask me what they can be doing to help their children be more ready for the Fall. Here are my suggestions:
*Read...every single day! Read together, ask your kids to read to you, you read to them. Any time with a book is good time.
*Work on math facts. Just a couple minutes practicing basic facts will help children keep their "math brains". This can include counting objects and writing numbers, practicing addition and subtraction, and practicing multiplication and division.
*Consider MASK TRAINING. If you plan to send your kids back for in-person learning in the Fall, you know they will have to wear masks, so start building tolerance for this. Some ideas include wearing masks to play a board game, then for a TV show, then for a movie. We need to get used to masks, and doing so a little at a time will make the Fall MUCH easier. We will build in mask breaks, but our amazing students also have to be used to wearing masks as well.

We're now over 55% registered! THANK YOU!!!
You will not be able to give your Fall 2020 choice if you are not registered. Also, we will be doing an online residency confirmation in early August. YOU MUST BE REGISTERED BY AUGUST 1 SO WE CAN CONFIRM YOUR RESIDENCY. If you are not registered, your final enrollment and class assignment will be delayed so we can confirm residency.

UPDATES ON GRAB AND GO
Grab and Go will be held at LOTUS each Monday and Thursday from 7:30-10:00AM. The roof work at Stanton is pretty messy and, since we will be offering meals as part of Summer School at Lotus, it makes sense to relocate all food service to Lotus for the rest of the summer.

SUMMER SMARTIES!
To give our families access to learning tools for summer, a group worked SO HARD to make this page:
It will be updated regularly to keep the learning, review, and extensions happen all summer long!
