Monday, July 20 Weekly Update

UPDATES ON REOPENING PLANS
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the virtual Board Meeting last Tuesday and to everyone who has contacted me or other staff with questions about the Fall. These are not easy times or easy decisions for any of us, and I wish more than ANYTHING that I could tell you we are able to open our schools like normal for the Fall. I also know making the choices between our Blended/Remote Learning options causes stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff, and I'm so very sorry. We feel that we've made the safest and best plans for ALL that we can given what we know right now.

We've gotten a lot of great questions at the Board meeting and from calls/emails we've received. To help answer them, we have created this FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS document. I've linked it here so it can be constantly updated with the most current information. We have also created the FALL REOPENING PAGE on the D114 website so you can easily access all the most updated information.

If you haven't already done so, please select one of the two options for your K-8th grade child(ren) by tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21.
Here are the steps to follow:
You must be registered before you may make your choice. For information on how to register, please visit https://www.d114.org/registration. If you have not registered, we will not log your choice until you do so.

Once have you have registered, please be ready to share the following information:
Your child(ren)’s name
Your child(ren)’s grade level
Your choice of FULL REMOTE or BLENDED for Fall 2020

Next, communicate your choice in EITHER way below. You need to email/call ONE PERSON no matter which school(s) your child(ren) may attend.
Email ANY of the following with your choice:
Michele Burgess (michele.burgess@foxlake114.org
Sue Pinkawa (sue.pinkawa@foxlake114.org)
Paula Kvacik (paula.kvacik@foxlake114.org
ORCall EITHER of the following numbers. Please feel free to leave a message with your information; we will monitor messages regularly.

ALL FAMILIES ARE ASKED TO RESPOND WITH THEIR CHOICE BY TUESDAY, JULY 21. Any family who does not respond will be assigned to full remote learning.

As a reminder, all families should have a plan in place should we have to pivot to full remote learning. This could happen at any point depending on the decisions made for safety at the state level. While I certainly hope it doesn't happen, I also want us all to be ready!

Again, thank you for your partnership. I know this isn't easy, but I can promise you we will do our very best for our students, families, and staff...no matter what!

2020 Summer School at UR schedule now online - University of Richmond
Summer School opened last Monday with students joining us for in-person learning and joining via remote learning. It was so exciting to have staff and students back on site. We learned A LOT by running our safety protocols, and the first week was a HUGE success. The students did great wearing their masks, the staff built in breaks, and everyone seemed to feel great being back together. Our remote learning kicked off as well, and students and teachers were happy to connect on the remote platforms, too. The bottom line is that safety has been put first, learning is happening, and we are connecting---no matter what platform--as a school community again.

Good Idea Vector Royalty Free Cliparts, Vectors, And Stock ...
A few parents have emailed to ask me what they can be doing to help their children be more ready for the Fall. Here is a great new tool, with last week's suggestions included, too:

*Read...every single day! Read together, ask your kids to read to you, you read to them. Any time with a book is good time.

*Work on math facts. Just a couple minutes practicing basic facts will help children keep their "math brains". This can include counting objects and writing numbers, practicing addition and subtraction, and practicing multiplication and division.

*Consider MASK TRAINING. If you plan to send your kids back for in-person learning in the Fall, you know they will have to wear masks, so start building tolerance for this. Some ideas include wearing masks to play a board game, then for a TV show, then for a movie. We need to get used to masks, and doing so a little at a time will make the Fall MUCH easier. We will build in mask breaks, but our amazing students also have to be used to wearing masks as well.

Want to help out others? Here's a great opportunity! Thank you, Sophia!

We're now over 62% registered! THANK YOU!!!

You will not be able to give your Fall 2020 choice if you are not registered. Also, we will be doing an online residency confirmation in early August. YOU MUST BE REGISTERED BY AUGUST 1 SO WE CAN CONFIRM YOUR RESIDENCY. If you are not registered, your final enrollment and class assignment will be delayed so we can confirm residency.

UPDATES ON GRAB AND GO
Grab and Go will be continue to be held at LOTUS each Monday and Thursday from 7:30-10:00AM. The roof work at Stanton is pretty messy and, since we will be offering meals as part of Summer School at Lotus, it makes sense to relocate all food service to Lotus for the rest of the summer.
